Drainage channels installed outdoors must, without exception, be designed to safely withstand the loads imposed by pedestrians and vehicles. Drainage channels installed outdoors must, without exception, be designed to safely withstand the loads imposed by pedestrians and vehicles.

With regard to loads, we divide them into two main categories: static loads and dynamic loads.

●Static Load   ●Dynamic Load
The load is applied vertically to the drainage channel system, with no other lateral movements; this setup is typically used in laboratory tests to evaluate the load-bearing capacity of both the cover plates and the channel structure. In practical applications, however, the channels are generally used only for pedestrian traffic or for the placement of other equipment.   Vehicles in motion generate dynamic loads that can exert torsional forces on drainage channels, potentially causing them to shift. The loads borne by the channel structure and cover plates, as well as the construction methods and locking systems employed, are critical factors to consider when accounting for dynamic loading.

Load-bearing standard EN1433

Classifying load-bearing ratings helps select the appropriate products for the specific conditions of a project, ensuring that linear drainage systems achieve a long service life without overspending. Today, both domestic and international products are graded according to the European EN 1433 standard into six application load classes—A15, B125, C250, D400, E600, and F900—based on outdoor traffic areas.

A15 (15 kN)   B125 (125 kN)
Only for use in areas designated for pedestrian and bicycle traffic.   Sidewalks, pedestrian zones and comparable areas, private car parks or parking bays

C250 (250 kN)   D400 (400 kN)
On both sides of the curb and in non-traffic areas with hard shoulders, as well as similar areas.   The lanes of highways (including pedestrian streets), hard shoulders, and parking areas are open to all types of road vehicles.

E600 (600 kN)   F900 (900 kN)
Suitable for areas with high wheel loads, such as ports and both sides of docks.   Suitable for areas with exceptionally high wheel loads, such as airport runways.
