Technical Support
Once the rainwater discharge Q specified in ① has been determined, the appropriate drainage ditch dimensions can be selected by taking the aforementioned factors into account. These dimensions are expressed in terms of the internal width and internal depth of the ditch, which are used to adjust the cross-sectional area of the flow passage and thereby select a suitable ditch configuration.
● The internal width of our finished drainage channels is typically an integer, such as 100 mm, 200 mm, or 300 mm.
● The external width and height of drainage channels vary depending on the product specifications; for hydraulic calculations, the internal width and internal depth shall be used as the reference.
Our company’s design engineers can calculate the rainwater discharge per meter for each trench specification under different flow lengths. By combining these calculations with the required rainwater discharge specified in ①, the appropriate trench dimensions can be selected.
Once the required drainage capacity for surface water in Area ① has been determined, we can assist you in selecting the appropriate trench dimensions.
Note: Factors Affecting the Hydraulic Performance of Linear Drainage Systems
● Number and location of drain outlets
The outlets of a linear drainage system are connected to the municipal stormwater network, and their location and number significantly influence the system’s hydraulic performance. If only a single outlet is provided at the end of a long channel section, the limited discharge capacity may lead to full-flow conditions at the upstream end of the section. To address this, either a larger-diameter channel should be selected or the number of outlets should be increased.

If the ground is level and the municipal stormwater inspection manhole is relatively close to or can be adjusted to align with the ditch, the drainage outlet may be positioned at the midpoint of the ditch section. This reduces the effective length for hydraulic calculations, thereby enhancing the system’s drainage capacity.

●Ground slope
Drainage ditches with a longitudinal slope can increase flow velocity and hydraulic self-cleaning capacity.

Friendly Reminder:
When flow rates are low, a U-shaped cross-section helps maintain a higher water level and flow velocity within the channel, thereby enhancing drainage performance and self-cleaning capacity.
